About Us
What is “How to Dog”?
How 2 Dog is in the business of teaching dogs how to be dogs and people to be responsible and capable dog owners/trainers…how to do all things dog.
How do we achieve this?
To achieve all of this we must create value in ourselves to our dogs by clearly and consistently communicating, and treating them fair.
Engagement.
What does it mean to “create value in ourselves”? We need to provide structure for our dogs and lead. We should be exciting and the source of everything good in our dogs’ lives. Value is developed by creating engagement with our dogs.
Communication.
Clear and consistent communicate are key. Our body language, how we hold the leash and even our tone all are ways we communicate to our dogs.
Fair Treatment.
Fair treatment. There will be times when a dog’s behavior needs correcting, but this must be done in a clear and fair way. Your dog only needs to be shown what they have just done is inappropriate and even better is to show them a desired behavior instead. Correcting a dog for nipping is not the same as correcting a dog for not sitting. Every correction should be appropriate and fair.
What do we do?
Big and small, we train them all.
Yes, we train your dog but, more importantly we coach you on how to train your dog. Whether you want to train your own dog and book private lessons or choose to have us train your dog by booking a board and train package, you are ultimately your dog’s trainer. We will coach you on how to train and maintain your dog’s obedience and behavior. We achieve this through clear communication, consistent reinforcement and advocating for your dog.
How do we do it?
We recognize that every dog is an individual. We consult with you and your dog(s) to assess your dog’s behavior so we can make a customized training program.
We use a variety of training methods and tools (yes, even a leash is considered a training tool) to achieve your desired goals. Since, no two dogs are the same, neither should two training programs; We consult with you and your dogs to assess your dog’s behavior. Foundation work is always performed with positive reinforcement and clear communication. Consistency is the key!
